What Are the GAT and PAT Exams?

The GAT (General Aptitude Test) and PAT (Professional Aptitude Test) are standardized university entrance examinations in Thailand, administered by the National Institute of Educational Testing Service (NIETS). The GAT measures general academic aptitude, including analytical thinking and English communication skills. The PAT assesses knowledge and aptitude in specific professional fields, with seven variants: PAT 1 (Mathematics), PAT 2 (Science), PAT 3 (Engineering), PAT 4 (Architecture), PAT 5 (Teaching), PAT 6 (Arts), and PAT 7 (Foreign Languages, with multiple sub-tests). Students choose which PAT exams to take based on the university programs they wish to apply for. GAT/PAT scores are a key component of Thailand's central university admissions system (TCAS).

GAT/PAT 2027 Exam Schedule

The GAT/PAT 2027 examinations are scheduled for March 14, 2027. The exam period typically spans several days, with different tests scheduled on different dates. Each GAT exam lasts 3 hours and each PAT exam also lasts 3 hours. Students may take the GAT and as many PAT exams as they need for their desired university programs. Scores are valid for the current admissions cycle and are used in multiple rounds of the Thai university Central Admissions System (TCAS). TCAS consists of five rounds, with GAT/PAT scores playing a significant role in rounds 3 (Admission) and 4 (Direct Admission). Our countdown timer tracks the exact time remaining until the first GAT/PAT exam day, helping you pace your preparation schedule effectively.

How to Prepare for GAT/PAT

Preparing for GAT/PAT requires a targeted approach based on which exams you plan to take. For the GAT, practice analytical thinking exercises and strengthen your English reading and writing skills, as the test includes English communication components. For PAT exams, focus intensively on the specific subject area — PAT 1 requires strong mathematical problem-solving skills, PAT 2 covers physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science, and PAT 3 tests engineering aptitude. Review past exam papers from NIETS to understand question formats and difficulty levels. Join tutorial schools (rong rian kud) or study groups that specialize in GAT/PAT preparation. Create a study schedule that allocates dedicated time for each exam you plan to take. Practice under timed conditions regularly to build speed and accuracy. Many students find that starting preparation at least six months before the exam yields the best results.
