Eid al-Adha Countdown
Countdown to Eid al-Adha β the Festival of Sacrifice
When Is Eid al-Adha 2026?
Eid al-Adha (the Festival of Sacrifice) is the most important Islamic holiday, falling on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. In 2026, it is expected around May 27, 2026. It coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage and commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
Muslims worldwide celebrate by performing the Eid prayer, sacrificing an animal (Qurbani), and distributing meat to family, friends, and the needy.
The Day of Arafah
The Day of Arafah (9th Dhul Hijjah) is the day before Eid al-Adha and is considered the best day of the entire year. Pilgrims stand at Mount Arafat in the most important Hajj ritual. For non-pilgrims, fasting on this day expiates sins of two years β the past year and the coming year.
It is recommended to increase supplications on this day, as it is a day when prayers are answered.
Qurbani β The Sacrifice
Qurbani (animal sacrifice) is a confirmed Sunnah performed after the Eid prayer. Permissible animals include sheep, goats, cattle, and camels. The meat is traditionally divided into three parts: one-third for the family, one-third for friends and neighbors, and one-third for those in need.
The sacrifice period extends for four days: the day of Eid and the three days of Tashreeq (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul Hijjah).
