What Is the O-NET?

The O-NET (Ordinary National Educational Test) is Thailand's standardized national examination administered by the National Institute of Educational Testing Service (NIETS). The O-NET is taken by students at three levels: Grade 6 (Prathom 6), Grade 9 (Mathayom 3), and Grade 12 (Mathayom 6). The most significant of these is the Grade 12 O-NET, which is used as one component of university admissions through Thailand's TCAS (Thai University Central Admission System). The exam tests fundamental academic knowledge across core subjects including Thai Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and English. Unlike GAT/PAT, which tests aptitude, the O-NET focuses on testing mastery of the core curriculum. O-NET scores provide a standardized measure of student achievement and are also used by the Ministry of Education to evaluate school performance nationwide.

O-NET 2027 Exam Schedule

The O-NET 2027 Grade 12 examination is scheduled for February 27, 2027. The exam is typically held over one to two days, with different subjects tested in separate sessions. Each subject exam lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours. The five tested subjects are Thai Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and English. Questions are primarily multiple choice, though some subjects may include matching or short-answer components. Scores for each subject range from 0 to 100. The O-NET is a significant component of the TCAS admission process, particularly in the early rounds. Registration is handled through schools, and students receive their exam center assignments before the test date. O-NET Preparation Guide

Preparing for the O-NET requires a comprehensive review of the core curriculum across all five subjects. For Thai Language, review grammar, reading comprehension, and literary analysis skills. Focus on understanding different text types and practice answering questions about main ideas, author's purpose, and vocabulary in context. For Mathematics, review fundamental concepts including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and basic statistics, working through practice problems to build fluency. Science covers physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science — review key concepts and practice applying scientific reasoning to new situations. Social Studies encompasses history, geography, economics, civics, and religion — create summary notes for each area and practice with past exam questions. For English, strengthen vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, and basic writing skills. Use official NIETS practice tests and past O-NET papers to familiarize yourself with the format and identify areas needing extra attention.
