What Is the EGE (ЕГЭ)?
The EGE (Единый государственный экзамен / Unified State Examination) is Russia's centralized school-leaving and university entrance examination. Introduced nationally in 2009, the EGE replaced separate school graduation and university admission exams with a single standardized assessment. All students completing secondary education must pass the EGE in Russian Language and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. In addition, students choose elective subjects based on the university programs they wish to apply for, with options including physics, chemistry, biology, history, social studies, foreign languages, literature, geography, and computer science. The EGE is administered by Rosobrnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision in Education) and is recognized by all Russian universities for admissions.
EGE 2026 Schedule and Format
The EGE 2026 examination period is scheduled to begin on May 26, 2026, with the main exam wave running through late June. The exam schedule is published by Rosobrnadzor, with different subjects assigned to different dates. Each exam lasts between 3 and 4 hours depending on the subject. The EGE uses a combination of test-style questions and open-ended tasks requiring detailed written answers. Scores are converted to a 100-point scale, with minimum passing thresholds set for each subject. Russian Language and basic-level Mathematics are required for the school-leaving certificate, while profile-level Mathematics and elective subjects are needed for university applications. Students may retake failed mandatory exams in reserve dates within the same examination period. Our countdown tracks the time remaining until the first exam day.
EGE Preparation Strategies
Preparing effectively for the EGE demands a well-structured study plan that covers all examination subjects. Begin by reviewing the codificators and specifications published by FIPI (Federal Institute for Pedagogical Measurements), which outline the exact topics and question formats for each subject. Practice extensively with sample tests from the FIPI open question bank and past exam papers. For Russian Language, focus on grammar rules, punctuation, and essay writing skills. For Mathematics, systematically work through each topic area, from algebra and geometry to probability and statistics. Create a revision timetable that allocates proportional time to each subject based on its difficulty and your confidence level. Take full-length practice exams under timed conditions regularly to build endurance and identify weak areas. Study groups can be helpful for discussing complex problems and sharing effective strategies.
