What is the Baccalauréat?
The Baccalauréat (commonly known as "le Bac") is France's national secondary school leaving exam. Established in 1808, it is one of the most iconic examinations in the French education system. Over 700,000 students take the Bac each year across three tracks: general, technological, and professional. Since the 2021 reform, the general Bac uses a specialty-based system replacing the former S, ES, and L streams. The exam combines terminal exams (60%) with continuous assessment (40%).
