What Is the YKS Exam?

The YĂŒkseKĂ¶ÄŸretim Kurumları Sınavı (YKS) is Turkey’s centralised university entrance examination, administered by ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center). YKS replaced the former ÖSS and YGS/LYS system in 2018 and now serves as the sole gateway to undergraduate programmes at Turkish universities. The exam consists of two mandatory stages: TYT (Temel Yeterlilik Testi), which tests basic proficiency in Turkish, mathematics, social sciences, and natural sciences; and AYT (Alan Yeterlilik Testi), which evaluates field-specific knowledge in mathematics, science, Turkish language and literature, or social sciences depending on the student’s chosen track. An optional third component, YDT (Yabancı Dil Testi), tests foreign language proficiency for students applying to language-related programmes. Over two million candidates sit for YKS each year, making it one of the most competitive university entrance exams globally.

When Is YKS 2026?

YKS 2026 is scheduled for June 2026, with TYT typically held on the first day (Saturday) and AYT on the second day (Sunday). The YDT section is usually administered alongside AYT. ÖSYM publishes the official exam calendar in late autumn or early winter of the preceding year, and registration generally opens in February–March. Exam results are released approximately four weeks after the test date. Our countdown timer displays the precise time remaining until YKS 2026, automatically adjusted to your time zone. How to Prepare for YKS

Preparing for YKS demands a disciplined, long-term study plan. Begin by mastering the TYT fundamentals—Turkish paragraph analysis, basic mathematics, and core science concepts—since TYT scores form the baseline for all placements. Then shift focus to your AYT field subjects, diving deep into the curriculum. Use topic-based question banks and ÖSYM’s released past exams to practise consistently. Schedule regular deneme sınavları (practice exams) under real conditions to build time management skills—TYT allows 135 minutes for 120 questions, and AYT gives 180 minutes for 160 questions. Incorporate active recall and spaced repetition techniques to retain material long-term. Manage stress with regular exercise, a consistent sleep schedule, and short breaks using a Pomodoro timer. Remember, consistent daily progress over months beats last-minute cramming.
