What Is the KPSS Exam?

The Kamu Personel Seçme Sınavı (KPSS) is Turkey’s civil service selection examination, administered by ÖSYM. KPSS is the primary gateway for appointment to public sector positions across government ministries, municipalities, state universities, and other public institutions. The exam has multiple tracks depending on the candidate’s educational background: KPSS Lisans (for bachelor’s degree holders), KPSS Önlisans (for associate degree holders), and KPSS Ortaoğretim (for high school graduates). The Lisans track includes General Ability (Genel Yetenek) and General Culture (Genel Kültür) sections, plus a specialised Educational Sciences section for teacher candidates. KPSS scores are valid for a set period and are used in centralised appointment processes where candidates rank their preferred positions. Hundreds of thousands of candidates compete each year for a limited number of public sector openings.

When Is KPSS 2026?

KPSS 2026 is typically held in late summer, with the Lisans exam usually scheduled for July or August and the Önlisans/Ortaoğretim sessions at a different date. ÖSYM announces the exact schedule in its annual exam calendar. Registration periods open several months before each session, and candidates must apply online through the ÖSYM portal. Results are released approximately three to four weeks after the exam. Our countdown displays the precise remaining time until the next KPSS session. Since KPSS dates can shift from year to year, check ÖSYM’s official announcements and return here for the updated countdown.

How to Prepare for KPSS

KPSS preparation varies by track, but all candidates need strong performance in General Ability (mathematics, Turkish language) and General Culture (history, geography, citizenship, current affairs). Start with a diagnostic test to identify your weaknesses, then build a study plan that allocates more time to weaker areas. Use KPSS question banks from reputable publishers and work through ÖSYM’s past exam papers systematically. For the Lisans track, dedicate substantial time to the Educational Sciences section if you are a teacher candidate—this portion covers educational psychology, curriculum development, and teaching methods. Take full-length practice exams weekly to build endurance and refine time management. Stay current with Turkish and world events, as current affairs questions appear regularly. Use a Pomodoro timer for focused study blocks and track your progress over time.
